とんがり帽子のアトリエ Volume 2 🧙‍♀️

Healing directly would be “body transformation” and therefore explicitly forbidden.

K-dog mentioned in his initial explanation of forbidden magic in volume one that transportation through the use of tools is allowed, so no real surprise there. Also, having a portable exit circle is not that different from the stationary ones we’ve already seen.

Ah, so that’s what @footnote meant. Yes, I remembered that. I was thinking more along the lines of first aid magic equipment, like maybe the splint we see on the guy’s arm is automatically affixed or tightened by magic. But then again, maybe the circle is really just decoration.

Healing is even given explicitly as an example of forbidden magic in volume 1 on page 86:

Poor Aggatto has such a dark past! But I love that Koko helped her stay in the moment.

If I had a nickel for every time Koko fell into water and ruined her magic ink I would have two nickels, which isn’t much but it’s weird that it’s already happened twice

Now we know why K-dog is hydrophobic. Water is clearly 魔法使い kryptonite.

At first glance I thought the tassel thingies were her arms

I kept reading this as こいつはたまだけ and was like “What do you mean she’s just a ball? Is that a metaphor for underestimating people???”

Chapter 10 thoughts

I was getting Evil Agott vibes at the start of the chapter

Chapter 10 thoughts

I would not be surprised if there is a “fall to the dark side fueled by ambition” in the future.

Impressions for Chapter 11

Another cliffhanger :upside_down_face:

My current working theory is that the widespread magic effect seen at the end actually is Koko’s doing, but enabled by the “gift” bestowed on her by the eyeball-mask guy when he caught her alone at the end of chapter 7. Maybe he implanted her with subliminal greater magical knowledge or skill or even a way of controlling her.

Also, the magic police seem to be really trigger-happy with the mind wipes. Don’t bother investigating what happened, just wipe the first person who might be the culprit.

Summary

Yeah, I thought the same. No questions, don’t even let her try and defend herself. Quite scary given the severity and irreversibility of the punishment. Quite authoritarian/police state. I don’t think it’s clear yet who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

I like that those “normal humans” are in the middle of a harrowing life-or-death situation but you can still distract them by metaphorically jingling keys in front of their faces.

Lots of ADHD in that universe I bet

Thoughts on Chapter 11

Very cool that the cape is here to hide the fact that they are drawing their spells. now surely the hat also has to have a purpose? to hide magical pets maybe?

So shooort!

Are we really meant to assume that it’s Coko’s spell that did all that? Given that she did cast the 岩を崩す spell I would assume so. I guess the hooded mage overclocked her.

The mage cop is judge, jury and executioner. Didn’t even read her her Miranda rights.

memory wipe spell

Dang, the cliffhanger is even more intense than last week. No wonder K-dog wanted to keep the wizard cops away from the kids if they wipe memories just on the suspicion of being connected to the brimmed hats. I had a thought that it would be more prudent to interrogate a suspect for information, but then looking at this thing:

A living (looking) thing is an interesting form for a memory wipe spell to take. Maybe it’s just to make it more sinister looking, or maaaybe the memories it eats can somehow be retrieved and reviewed later? Also… it’s such a cute, funny lil’ guy

Chapter 11

I’m gonna guess right now that the memory wipe spell won’t work on Coco.

The hat is there to hide Wormie-sama.

Hanging on the cliff

She’s probably seconds away from getting saved by the arrival of the others.

And by “others” we mean no other than Wormie-tan who is revealed to be the leader of the brim hats.

Judging by what Kustas’s father says later, I think they were expecting the light bird to swoop down and rescue him. So it kinda makes sense to keep your eyes on it.

Obviously. With the little memory spell guys his willing minions.

On ADHD

I realized that afterwards, but quite some time passed without them glancing down at their dying relative given that coko had to do a fair bit of work down there.

I’m really just being pedantic for fun though, it’s not exactly a big plot hole.
