Hello! I wonder if anyone could help a grammar noob out
Im learning to ask whose it is like this.
これは だれの さいふですか
Could I also say?
このさいふは だれの ですか
Or would that be grammatically wrong or sound unnatural?

Yep, that works perfectly fine.
Once you’ve introduced an item into the conversation, you can use a hanging の like that to imply a reference back to that item without having to specify it again.
For another, more complex, example: 黄色いシャツがあまり好きじゃないです。赤いのはありますか = I don’t really like the yellow shirt. Do you have a red one?
That makes sense now. Thank you kindly
