これでいいです。 This is good as is

Hi,
could somebody please explain this sentence to me?

これでいいです。 This is good as is.

It is an example sentence in Bunpro for the usage of で as “with”
For example:

バスで行いく
I go by bus.

But I really don’t understand the first sentence.

これ means this and いい can mean fine or sufficient, right?

Well, its saying with (で) this (これ), is (です) sufficient (いい). With this is sufficient.

Sorta weird literal translation wise, but the meaning they are trying to get across is that これ is sufficient, basically. In english we usually say “its fine as is” or something of the sort.

で is often referred to as the “context particle” because it denotes the context or means by which something is happening (here, the context being これ/this, i.e the current conditions of the situation), but でいい in itself has a more specific meaning that can convey that someone is settling for something.

That’s why これでいい can be translated as “This is fine/This will do” (or in bunpro’s interpretation, “This is good as is”) — it sounds like the speaker has settled for whatever the context/conditions of the current situation are
