おん vs くん reading

which is more used (or more important to know) the おん or the くん reading?

人 = ひと = くん = person
外国人 = がいこくじん = おん = foreigner

For most kanji you will eventually need to know both (although sometimes there is more than one おん reading, so it might be more accurate to say ‘all’). Wanikani tries to teach all of the important readings, so if you follow the program, i.e. don’t skip vocab lessons, you should be fine :slight_smile:

(There are some kanji that have a LOT of different readings, and sometimes WK doesn’t teach ALL of them, but that’s just for a few that you can learn on your own if you encounter them ‘in the wild’.)
