Is the following sentence correct?
二千二十年の抱負は日本語を勉強するのだ。
My question is: can I use の to make 勉強する a noun and than affirm what my resolution is with だ? Thank you in advance
It was a grammatically correct sentence.
You can use の to make 勉強する a noun and then affirm what your resolution is with だ.
However, 〜するのだ! sounds like you are stating your resolution to yourself.
It is because だ works that way in spoken, and の is more casual than こと, it makes it sound like a spoken statement with some emphasis…it creates a little strange authoritative declaration sound.
If you use こと, it makes it more formal and it will read like a written sentence. When it’s written, だ is a neutral sentence ender, so it sounds more natural.
You can read more about だ in this article if you haven’t yet.
I got it. This is the kind of nuance I have no idea about. Your explanation was really clear. Thank you very much for your time. And thank you for the link
I’m really enjoying this kind of beginner practice!!
たのしんでるときいて、うれしいです\(^o^)/
