❄️ Winter Solstice 24-hour Readathon

My name is duplicated.

Anyway, the count can be made in Google Sheets for correctness. (Excel doesn’t have time duration data type so far.)

The sums are already nearly correct.

Couldn’t start in the morning, so I started in the afternoon.

I finished the Japanese Intermediate graded reader: 2 chapters, 27 pages, according to my Kindle. Will start Yotsuba vol 4 after I eat.

I am not sure If I did that. (sorry in advance)

But edited the thing again. Swapped pages with Char.

I can condense the two additions of your name – just to clarify, is that 73 pages from 5 sources and 52k characters from 1 other source? Or are they duplicated results in different formats?

EDIT: nevermind, I see that these are @Akashelia 's results with the wrong name, got it! sorry!

Sorry for my late post. I read 115 pages わたしのために脱ぎなさいっ Vol.2 Manga, three pages ベスト・エッセイ2021 and played three hours Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel 2, which I count as 90 minutes reading.

It was pretty disappointing but it’s nearly the end of the year, when everyone is pretty busy. I was tired I had to force myself to even read anything at all.

Took a nap then did some more bits of reading. I keep getting distracted… the concentration is already waning. Only 6 pages left until my goal of 30 pages, will do that reading after dinner.

Is anyone else reading on Monday this time around?

MADE IT to my 30 pages of Japanese HP goal! Whew… my brain is cooked. No manga this time and almost all reading was L31 novel instead of the L22-24 children’s books. Calling it there for today.

Since no one else seems to be reading today, (and I’m not having a productive day reading-wise) I think I will withdraw. I don’t want to hold the group back!

I will read some today, I meant to this weekend but I got busy with some holiday stuff that came up. But I am going to read some tonight even if it’s only for an hour or two and not the 9 hour stretch that I’ve seen some people post.

Winter Readathon Results

I was still too tired to write my results yesterday and today was a busy day which is why I’m a bit late with this update but here they are:

Book title Pages Time
葬送のフリーレン 1 188 2h 25 min
テイルズ ・オブ ・ゼスティリア 上 33 3h 30 min
Total: 221 5h 55m

Goals
:negative_squared_cross_mark: Read at least 6 ½ hours
Finish 葬送のフリーレン 1
Read at least 15 pages of テイルズ ・オブ ・ゼスティリア 上

I finished my reading just before 21:25 yesterday and reached 2 out of 3 goals, one of which I surpassed. I didn’t manage to surpass my last challenge’s hour count because my body was simply not cooperative this weekend. Hopefully things will be better during the next Readathon. :smiling_face_with_tear:

I regards to the books I read I wasn’t quite feeling the 1st volume of フリーレン but I will check out the book club thread(s) and plan to continue reading some more volumes at one point next year nonetheless.

Once I began reading the Zestiria light novel, I immediately noticed that it doesn’t feature the very first few hours of the game – to my dismay. To me, they were my favourite parts of the game as I like the setting and because the story takes a huge nosedive from 20% onwards, at least in my book.
I don’t know why the authors left out the very beginning but since this novel was done in cooperation with Ufotable I could see it being intended as a companion piece to the animated episode “Dawn of the Shepherd” that only shows the beginning and that was made around the time the game launched and was possibly included in the collector’s edition(?)
Prologue ramblings aside, during my reading I noticed that I had forgotten much more than I thought since some story beats surprised me (provided the adaptation did not add things that weren’t in the game).
Weirdly enough and despite me forgetting more than I thought I had, reading this light novel wasn’t as difficult as I assumed. While there were grammar points and parts that I didn’t quite understand, I managed to get the gist of everything and understand a fair bit which I was pleasantly surprised by.

Thank you very much for setting up and hosting the Readathon again, @taiyousea !

And to everyone else, I liked seeing your updates and results (so far) and I’m looking forward to seeing the final results in the wiki! I hope you had a good time reading and regardless if you were happy or a bit disappointed with your result this time, I hope that it has given you some incentive to figure out your next milestone you wish to reach. :slightly_smiling_face:

My reading this time was pretty short. I read おチビがうちにやってきた book 3 chapter 8. It took about 45 minutes. But then I took a nap and now I have another Christmasy thing to do today. It’d be fine if I didn’t go and stayed home to read more, but since it’s the holidays I think I’ll be a little festive. I may finish this book on Christmas Day if I think about it. It’s ~level 24 on natively (I added it so I don’t know the real level since it’s not highly graded) so it isn’t a hard read but I just didn’t read it for a while because of moving to harder books. It’s still cute though. This chapter was mostly downtime after the big action scene last chapter. They read Chinatsu a bedtime story. Pages 137-150.

Thanks @taiyousea for hosting, these are fun challenges. I didn’t have hot cocoa but I did have some Christmasy cookies.

Thank you everyone for participating! I had such a great time rushing to check daily updates in all of my spare moments :christmas_tree::pray::snowflake: I wanted to use this lull before the new year to finalize the event and look at our totals. A lot of us were distracted by holiday prep and travel, I’m so thankful for you taking the time to read with me and I’m just speechless that we were able to churn out as many good pages and hours as we did!

This time, we had 22 participants read for over 137 hours, with 4,600 pages and 252,000 characters completed from 77 sources over the weekend of the solstice. Though we placed second to the Fall Readathon in terms of raw participation numbers, we obliterated our past two readathons in terms of per-reader averages :dancer::open_book::man_dancing:

I hope everyone has been having an incredible December. The new year is right around the corner – the perfect time to make some reading-related resolutions! :innocent:

The next readathon event will take place on the Spring Equinox, March 20th, 2025. This one will be extra fun because the equinox falls on a Thursday rather than a weekend day :eyes: Hope to see you then! :tulip:

Just realised that the next Readathon is on 20th March, not February - just shows you how equinox-ignorant I am!
