❄️ Winter Solstice 24-hour Readathon

Winter Readathon Results

I was still too tired to write my results yesterday and today was a busy day which is why I’m a bit late with this update but here they are:

Book title Pages Time
葬送のフリーレン 1 188 2h 25 min
テイルズ ・オブ ・ゼスティリア 上 33 3h 30 min
Total: 221 5h 55m

Goals
:negative_squared_cross_mark: Read at least 6 ½ hours
Finish 葬送のフリーレン 1
Read at least 15 pages of テイルズ ・オブ ・ゼスティリア 上

I finished my reading just before 21:25 yesterday and reached 2 out of 3 goals, one of which I surpassed. I didn’t manage to surpass my last challenge’s hour count because my body was simply not cooperative this weekend. Hopefully things will be better during the next Readathon. :smiling_face_with_tear:

I regards to the books I read I wasn’t quite feeling the 1st volume of フリーレン but I will check out the book club thread(s) and plan to continue reading some more volumes at one point next year nonetheless.

Once I began reading the Zestiria light novel, I immediately noticed that it doesn’t feature the very first few hours of the game – to my dismay. To me, they were my favourite parts of the game as I like the setting and because the story takes a huge nosedive from 20% onwards, at least in my book.
I don’t know why the authors left out the very beginning but since this novel was done in cooperation with Ufotable I could see it being intended as a companion piece to the animated episode “Dawn of the Shepherd” that only shows the beginning and that was made around the time the game launched and was possibly included in the collector’s edition(?)
Prologue ramblings aside, during my reading I noticed that I had forgotten much more than I thought since some story beats surprised me (provided the adaptation did not add things that weren’t in the game).
Weirdly enough and despite me forgetting more than I thought I had, reading this light novel wasn’t as difficult as I assumed. While there were grammar points and parts that I didn’t quite understand, I managed to get the gist of everything and understand a fair bit which I was pleasantly surprised by.

Thank you very much for setting up and hosting the Readathon again, @taiyousea !

And to everyone else, I liked seeing your updates and results (so far) and I’m looking forward to seeing the final results in the wiki! I hope you had a good time reading and regardless if you were happy or a bit disappointed with your result this time, I hope that it has given you some incentive to figure out your next milestone you wish to reach. :slightly_smiling_face:
