I’m just having a little Naruto snack today. Three chapters in on volume 4. I still am like, am I actually remembering what happens here from the anime or not ? I haven’t watched it since it came out, so it’s mostly a surprise. The next arc is the part of the show that really started leaving and impression on me, so it’s been fun to resurrect these incredibly murky memories.
There’s still someone other than me reading the earlier volumes - yay! I wasn’t sure I’d be able to join in this today, but I ended up finding time. I blew through the whole of volume 4 in just under 3 hours! Happy Naru Day, everyone!
that’s definitely nostalgia speaking and it’s the conversations i’ve had with the friends when i was younger and the whole “is deidara or sasori cooler”, but man, there aren’t that many works of art that are able to trigger those emotions from me these days, maybe i need some nostalgia in my life xddd
I’ll try volume 32 before going to sleep as well and then i’m going to park afterwards ^^
The cliffhanger after Vol 16 was too good to resist I pushed through Vol 17 but it wasn’t as intense as the previous two volumes – lots of setup for something big coming up in the future, so a decent amount of exposition instead of action. But with a training montage, which I loved!
I just wanted to say hello to other Naruto fans I have made the grave mistake bought the whole Naruto manga series yesterday on Book Walker, so I guess I’m commited to it accompanying me on my language learning journey
After being forced to do so After discovering the book club, I have made the brave decision to join it, so that I can join the community in loving Naruto but Itachi more
This will be the first book I read in Japanese, so it’s gonna be an interesting journey for me, but hopefully a fun one
Speaking of reading, I have the following weird question: How do you read the texts and dialogues in this manga?
I’ve never had manga with text written vertically and I’m not sure in which way to read it exactly (I know it’s supposed to be from top to bottom, but is it from left to right or right to left?) and how do you know the order of reading panels on the same page? For example, the first page has a lot of different texts in so many different places and I’m not sure in which order to read them
I have read manga before (in English and German) and the context would help me with such confusion most of the time, but since I’m a beginner at Japanese and this is the first mange I read, there’s a lot of confusion unfortunately
I welcome you to read Naruto with us and I know you’ll have an amazing time! However, Naruto isn’t the easiest manga to start with because there is quite a lot of casual slang and idioms. I recommend trying out the first chapter – if it’s too extreme right now, pause and spend time with an easier manga with the ABBC to get the hang of reading Japanese. You can always come back later! That’s what @soggyboy did
But of course, if you try reading and it’s a blast and you’re having an amazing time, there’s no need to pause
The great thing about an unscheduled club is that it will always be here and there will always be at least one person still reading who you can chat with (probably me pfft haha) If you have specific questions about a certain page or chapter, join in on the arc threads (links in the top post)! I hope to see you there だってばよ!!
I started buying the colored ones. For people who have trouble reading shonen manga scene geography (), it’s really helpful to see what’s happening. They also did a lot better job with this one compared to some that I’ve seen.
ok, this explains a lot and clarifies how I should be reading the manga in general
Thank you very much for your explanation
If I may ask the same question, but for page 5 (I’m currently at work and that’s why I can’t provide the screenshot ). That page confused me a bit, but I assume the same principle still applies? from right to left and from top to bottom?
Thank you thank you for the heartening welcoming
It’ll be an interesting experience for me for sure. I don’t expect it to be an easy one, but what I would like to use to my advantage is that I’m already familiar with the anime (watched it like 9 years ago or something) and I’ve read a lot of chapters of the manga in English. I hope that will assist me in reading the manga. Fun is definitely the purpose (alongside witnessing the mighty, lovely and adorable Itachi). I also want to test myself and see how I fare
Your words of encouragement are appreciated and I shall join the other threads as well
For I too shall one day learn the way of the Ninja
