Ahhh, so that’s why your REDC update was so short!
Hope you’re enjoying yourself. The first game was a lot of fun and so cool visually! Looks like this is more of the same.

Tee hee, yes. And even shorter today
Though that’s more because I went to my mom’s for lunch. I am quite enjoying myself; it’s nice to be back in that world despite not being in the Oldest House. Reviews were really split, but I think the game is good. Not as good as the first one (hard bar to clear), but still good. Remedy makes interesting stuff! (I feel super duper really bad for Dylan, the main character…poor guy…)
Also i made a delicious mushroom risotto for dinner — new recipe, ENTIRELY in the oven, so no gradually stirring in stock for half an hour or whatever. Yummmmm

Hmmm, 変な家 is a great starter novel learning-wise, but like novel-wise…hmmm. The mystery is engaging at the beginning (even if the characters’ excessive speculation is silly), but the last bit is just constant exposition – not even good exposition. The “truth” of the mystery is plain dumb. Though it was funny, I thought I had encountered a spoiler for this book a few months ago that revealed the central secret to be that the murderers were vampires, so I spent much of my time reading thinking that was true. It’s not! But that might’ve been better.
Oh, I saw Primetime today and it was really good!

I got home before 23:00!!! Before 22:00 even!
Today I did an alternate route – drove with my brother to the subway terminus and then took the train in from there (skipping the commuter train I typically take). I got to wake up a little later, which was nice. The tram I take to get to campus is out of service this week, so I took the next closest subway line and walked in from there. Because I didn’t have to wait an hour for my train home in the evening I got home nice and (relatively) early! (though of course my night class let out 40 min early, so I actually could’ve caught the 21:00 train today lol.)
I have two classes on Monday with a four-hour break in between. So Mondays will be my N3 文法 days. 68 days left, I gotta get to work! I’ll probably try to get another section done tomorrow. I generally understand grammar when I encounter it reading, but I do find like summoning it out of the ether for multiple choice questions kinda difficult. And it’s hard to remember the right form for whatever nouns / verbs the grammar point is attached to…maybe I’ll make flashcards or something.

Yes, it’s hard to beat the novelty factor of Control 1, but wow…Control Resonant is really, really good. They are cooking crazy in Finland, they’re doing stuff you’ve just never seen before! I got to an area today that made me put my controller down so I could just look at it and say now how did they do that! (Two, actually.) Wowwwww. (Plus it’s an action game with no parry, thank god.) I continue to feel SO BAD for Dylan, to the extent that I’m kind of surprised at my own reaction. He deserves better…

On a completely unrelated to Japanese note – Final Fantasy XI has just updated their free trial mode to no longer be time-limited and to go up to level 75!! FFXI is an amazing, lovely game; it is the first and only MMO I have really played and I love it. I’ve been playing solo (which is totally doable), but it would be fun to have some WK friends in there! Join us in Vana’diel!!!
(Back to regularly scheduled programming.) I’m not writing it down here but I joined the fall Listen Every Day Challenge! I usually listen to / watch some amount of jp content every day, but I thought this would be a good way to make sure that I do.
It’s been getting cooler around here but this week the weather decided to give us a last taste of summer. Disgusting…it’s too hot. Think I got too hot this evening (and then I did a fight in Control that a) introduced an enemy type that the game itself describes as “like a migraine” made physical and b) was just…completely flashing lights everywhere. ow) because now I have a soon-to-be-splitting headache. Woo!

Home by 22:00! …but I really am beginning to think I should just suck it up and drive haha.
Decent day, though my classes were a little boring. I hung out with two people I’ve been getting to know, we ate lunch and did some studying together – is this making friends!!! Wow!!!
I wanna try and watch a bunch of spooky movies this month. My life does not permit watching a movie every day, as much as I wish it did, so my goal is 13 films. Started with Tremors last night, good stuff.

Got SKM 読解 in the mail today! (Now I just need to study…) Did not watch three movies (though I’m about to watch one), did not get a migraine, all good. A (eng language) galley I’ve been really excited about finally came too, this one.
Thought I was almost done with Control but no!! There is more!! Huzzah! Yay
Ooh, sounds interesting! Curious to hear your take on it.
Somehow I never realized that there were two FF MMOs… thought it was just FFXIV. As I’m typing this I’m realizing that there are probably way more FF games and spinoffs than I ever realized.

Suddenly very sleepy! Went to ice cream with my friend / former colleague today, our ice cream place has their apple cider doughnut sundaes back in!! They make their own doughnuts, even. I had hojicha maple ice cream with mine, that’s lunch right there.
Very boring technology class today. Really don’t think we need three hours to talk about web accessibility, but that’s just me. Plus the prof took like 30min at the end to talk about some (albeit related) research he’d done…like bro let me out! At least it was so boring that I managed to read some Poe lol.
Finished it this afternoon, kinda remarkable. The more I sit with it the more I like it. Though there’s parts / aspects of it that, while I find them objectively very good / clever / well done, are just subjectively not my favorite. BUT it’s good enough that I can recognize its (many) merits and (very) high quality even though it’s not 100% my scene. That and the below said, if it piques your interest at all, I would say put it on your list for when it comes out. It is beautifully written, rich, clever, pretty unique. Not afraid to challenge you either. I should tell the scifi fans in POLL about it closer to pub…
(I also don’t like the way the copy describes it lol, does it a disservice. the sort of “for fans of X authors” language annoys me…comparing this author’s work only to other authors of color annoys me, like the comparisons are merited to a degree but this book has other stuff going on / going for it than “oh it’s like nk jemisin” / “this is a Black / gay book”)

Lazy Friday. Not much to report! I am slowly approaching the actual end of Control Resonant. I don’t want it to end!! I never finished the second Alan Wake 2 dlc so i might go back and do that after for more remedy juice. Oh, I had a doctor’s appt this morning but went to the wrong office, so I had to reschedule to 12/24…at 07:30.
Bah! (plus it’s an appt I HATE!)
Oop I missed this yesterday! Yeah, FFXI is the original one, started on the PS2
and still going! (geniuses…they put an mmo out on a console that didn’t have built in network connection so you had to buy the ethernet adapter!) It’s VERY different from FFXIV and I greatly prefer it. The only two FFs I’ve played are X and XI, plus a spot of FFT remaster. But yes there are waaaaaaaaay more than 16 games. VII alone has like five (??) spinoff games iirc??
Yeah, it’s always so hard to… judge a book by its cover, I guess. I much prefer that an author I like has a quote comment on the book endorsing it (“OMG so0o0o good, buy this book!” - N.K. Jemisen).
Haha, love it! Reminds me of the N64 Expansion Pack.
The only FF series I’ve played were the SNES ones, FFXV (heh), and the first part of the FF7 remake. I have fond memories of the old 16-bit ones, but never enough time to dedicate to playing any of the more recent ones these days.

Whew, busy day! At least the second half. My brother had asked me to come help him pick up some wood from someone in town, but it turned out to be…a lot of wood.
(all the stuff leaning and up in the loft, plus like seven 8x4 sheets of plywood) He summoned his twin to help, and it took the three of us two trips with very full cars.
This is like a third of truck trip 2. It was so much lol. I hope he builds like three to five more raised beds for the garden or something. Me and my other sibling did feel a little tricked by how much wood we had to move (I was expecting like 10 planks or something), but whatever. Brother did make some delicious apple butter buns today so I guess he’s forgiven. Here he is working hard —
Yeah, I’d much rather have a direct rec from an author than an “if you like X”…
Doesn’t help that they keep getting longer lol. I want to do VIII through XIII one of these days, but who knows when that’ll be!

Went to da movies today, saw Digger. I…don’t understand why people were so split about this movie / it was so controversial. It was good! The cast was really great! Embarrassingly I think this is my first non-Mission: Impossible Tom Cruise film lol (I LOVE M:I). My friend and I were plotting out our movie schedule for the next month-ish, luckily looks like we’ll be at the IMAX a lot: Your Mother Your Mother, Street Fighter, You Can See Everything, Wildwood, Godzilla, Cliff Booth, Wild Horse Nine…plus Once Upon a Time in Harlem…waaaaah…fall is great.
