Kicked off my birthday weekend with a trip to the movies — saw I Love Boosters, which was great. I was really looking forward to it (liked the director’s last movie) so I’m glad it was good. Then I played FFXI for the rest of the day

Yesterday I told myself that I’d do all my japanese stuff in the morning since I was going to a big concert tonight and would get back late and be tired and have no time…and then today I played FFXI all day lol. Genius!!

Birthday dinner #1 tonight, very pleasant. Didn’t do a ton today, though my brother built me a bookcase (not as a birthday present) so we hauled it upstairs and I filled it up:
No more stacks of books all over my room!! I put all my english language manga on the bottom, which cleared enough space on my manga bookshelf to make it a japanese books bookshelf:

Birthday dinner #2 tonight. Today all day I sat around and played Ape Escape and some FFXIV! Then I got to be celebrated 
Turns out that is a good way to spend a birthday.

I’d counted out the Moomin pages so I’d have the same amount today as yesterday…and then it turned out I had two pages left and the rest was editor’s note / appendix type stuff lol. But I did it! I read a (children’s) novel!!
Congratulations! 
I wonder if there are Japanese verisions of other Moomin books… I sure hope there are!
Interestingly enough, those books differ quite a lot in the degree of childishness… Some can be quite childish while others are not childish at all… But they are all great books!

I was planning on taking a fake sick day today just for fun, 'cause I’d like to use some up before I leave this job for grad school in the fall (I have 53 sick days saved up!). But now I actually have a cold! Karma?? I’m a little annoyed, for once I wanted to go in tomorrow…one of my colleagues is a dog handler / breeder and she’s bringing in new puppies tomorrow for socializing. This is probably the last chance I’ll get to see her puppies but I’m sick 
bleh.
There are! I have one more on hand for later. Moomin is HUGE in japan. My host mom when I studied abroad there loved Moomin, the house was full of Moomin stuff (tissue box cover, plates / tableware, framed pictures, etc.). I think there is a Moominland there…? Oh yes, in Saitama!
I’m so happy to hear it!
Those are among my most favorite books since childhood!
