I would like to participate too. For me, it could be any day of the options. I believe I can read at least one manga.
Hello everyone. I had promised to participate in the event, but I will have to cancel my participation. I have anxiety problems, and since I don’t know how to write in English well, when I make a post, I get worried, thinking that I wrote something wrong, or that I was misinterpreted. Or that I wrote thinking about one thing, but what is written is something else. Or that I may have been rude in the text. So I spend a lot of time thinking about what I wrote, and if I should change anything.
This is also the reason why I didn’t create a study log, which is something I really wanted to, and I’m sure it would help me. Besides, I wanted to talk to people, but I can’t, for the same reasons I mentioned above. And continuing to try to participate in the forum, writing in English, caused me an anxiety attack, and today I’m not well. From now on, I will stop writing in the forum (at least for now).
Since I really like the forum and the people here, I will just follow your journey, silently. And good luck with your studies.

And my Japanese study at Wanikani continues, regardless.

I understand what you mean, it can really give anxiety to put yourself out there!
I think this community is the most welcoming one I know but if you have anxiety anyway self care is important you can come back whenever you feel stronger!
I will be flying that weekend, so might end up doing a fragmented readathon across Friday and Monday during my travel time.

I’m not sure whether your anxiety attack now changed how you look at this event, and maybe you don’t want to have anything to do with it any more. If that’s the case, then I totally understand, and please disregard what I wrote below.
I just wanted to mention that if you still want to participate in the event, you can absolutely do so without posting about it here! I mean, the event is basically meant to give everybody a good reason to read - and if you still want to do that, then by all means go for it 
If you want to let us know about what you read, it is also absolutely fine to post just one sentence, maybe “Read x pages.” or maybe add the name of the book or whatever it is you read. But like I said, in the end of the day it’s your reading that is the important bit. 
Thank you for this response. I’ve been feeling down myself about being too busy to consistently participate in the forum due to work, school, and other extracurricular commitments, so it’s nice to know that my participation is still welcome.
Sadly, I’ll need to sit this one out, but I hope I can join for the winter solstice readathon!
Yes! Reading is the goal, updating the thread is simply for community fun. It’s exciting for me to see what everyone’s reading, but it’s perfectly appropriate to only update the “final numbers” chart after you’ve done your reading, even without making an update post. Everyone is welcome and English isn’t required – after all, this is a Japanese reading challenge ^–^
Maybe I’ll try to report in Japanese. Or maybe not…
The poll has closed and it looks like the original date of Sunday, 22nd September won – however, it just barely beat out Saturday the 21st for which there was also a strong contingent of interest.
I’m thinking of tagging the full weekend as the Readathon and it can be up to individuals which 24-hour period you would like to use. This will also allow more freedom if you’re a night owl and want your 24-hour period to be something like 1pm Saturday to 1pm Sunday. Just a little more flexible for everyone. And because of the way everyone’s timezones differ, there will be overlap of Saturday readers posting alongside Sunday readers and Sunday readers posting alongside those few reading on Monday, so it would seem like one ongoing stream of reading updates rather than anyone being “early” or “late” to the event

Yes! I have more FAQs in the poll reply, but, essentially, we’re all reading anything in Japanese that we choose during the readathon period and then tallying our collective time, pages, and/or text characters at the end to beat our previous record

Another user expressed anxiety over the thread-contribution aspect and I think we agreed that update posts of any kind are not required, they’re just for fun, so please skip them if they make the challenge too stressful. This is just for us to read together and mark the new season! ^^

I was pretty brain fried after just 9 hours last time, we’ll have to see 
I’m also planning to start friday night and read through saturday, since I am one of the aforementioned night owls currently 
Also just realized that if I start on friday, it will line up perfectly with my 2 year streak of reading something every day!
