I recently thought that it might be an interesting challenge to read some (or all? ) of the winners of the Akutagawa Prize. If you have not yet heard of it, it is a Japanese literary award named after the famous author 芥川龍之介 (あくたがわ りゅうのすけ). It is awarded each year in January and July to the best literary story published in a newspaper or magazine by a new or rising author. (In case you’re a bit overwhelmed, I recently came across this line in the tsundoku reader blog‘s review of the newest award winner, 「推し、燃ゆ」:
