There seemed to be a few people talking about delaying the start of this book with respect to Haruhi so here’s another poll to decide on that:

When would you prefer to start reading コンビニ人間?

  • June 22nd (No delay)
  • June 29th (1 Week delay)
  • July 6th (2 Weeks delay)
  • I don’t care

Might be worth changing the book version poll to three options:

  • eBook
  • paperback
  • hardback

I thought there was at least one more besides me with the hardback.

I’ll try to see if I can correlate the page numbers when I have access to the book later.

Apparently you can’t change a poll after 5 minutes

I’m not sure which edition I got until my black ship box turns up. I just got the cheapest one on amazon marketplace.

You can remove it and add another poll.
You can fake that by changing the name of the poll

[poll name=anewhope … (rest of the options)]

You might want to note in the schedule to read the page without a natural break to the end of the page. We might also need the end of the last line each week like Kino so it’s easy to identify.

Updated the book version poll, sorry to everyone that had already voted

@seanblue I have the ebook so I’ll need someone to tell me the sentences. I don’t know if this might make it easier (pages are different?):

If you make the main post a wiki I’ll add them over the weekend.

I added in the hardback pages and what I suspect are the ending phrases for those sections (projecting the 4-10 page drift between the versions over the course of the book). Please edit the ending phrases if I got them wrong, and delete the HB page number, then—once I know the exact ending phrase—I can update the HB page.

You got them all right. Thanks!

There’s been a vocabulary list on Floflo for the last couple of months, if anyone is interested in pre-learning vocab.

Based on the word parser, here’s the book stats for a WK user at level 30:

~3.3k words that aren’t katakana and about ~1.56k words to learn.

Book stats for a level 30 (2+ frequency words only)

of ~1.7k words about ~540 are unknown

Anyway, yeah, based on the word counts I think this will be a pretty decent book even for people who are new to reading, especially since there are people in the thread to help with grammar :ok_hand:

I had forgotten this was on Floflo.
Welp, added to the first post now. (I don’t think there is a way to get a more direct link? Correct me if I’m wrong)

Those stats give me hope that this one will be manageable enough that I’ll have time to attempt not getting crushed by Haruhi buut we’ll see. I have heard scary things about that book…

This is a direct link but for some reason it’s bugged for users who aren’t logged in. No idea what’s causing it right now.

Yeah idk I think I’ll be passing on Haruhi. It looks hard so if I’m interested im just gonna watch the anime

I’ve heard it’s really hard (and the stats on Floflo would support that), but the sample wasn’t too bad. Also, the anime looks like it’s a pretty confusing adaption, which is why I haven’t watched it and wanted to read it instead.

It seems no delay and 2 weeks delay keep being tied…
Maybe we can do 1 week delay so that literally no one gets their way

But that’s part of the charm (think: the last episode of Evangelion). And you could always watch it in the chronological order instead of airing order. I recommend trying it out after you’ve read the source material, at least for the kyoani visuals.

I hated the last episode of Evangelion and End of Evangelion.
